Knox Trail Historical Markers

This page contains images for all the markers dedicated to the route traveled by Colonel Henry Knox and the “Noble Train of Artillery” from Fort Ticonderoga to the Boston area in the Winter of 1775-1776 that I have encountered while walking along roads in Massachusetts (principally, but not exclusively, the Upper Boston Post Road). I will add images to this collection as I walk along the road and encounter a Knox Trail marker, starting from the end of Knox’s journey at Dorchester Heights in Boston (where much of the artillery was placed in March 1776) and at Cambridge Common (where Knox reported to General Washington at the end of his arduous winter journey).

Steven Glovsky has researched this topic in great detail and most of the information he has compiled can be found on the website of the Wayland Museum and Historical Society. Here is a list compiled by Steven Glovsky of all the markers, which has been invaluable to me as I walk from town to town along the Upper Boston Post Road and other old roads. Thanks to Steven for all his assistance.

South Boston: Dorchester Heights Monument Grounds

Note: Visited Thursday, August 8, 2024 and discovered that the grounds and the monument are undergoing renovation. The stone has been removed while the project is underway. When it is complete I will return to take a photo of the marker and to take a walk around the grounds and the surrounding neighborhood as part of my Boston Rambles project. In the meantime I submit the following photos in lieu of the actual stone marker. All the rest of the markers thus far are in the expected location
